How polyurethane paint protection actually works

PPF is not just a sticker. Bodyfence's 180-micron polyurethane is engineered as a multi-layer construction: a thick PU core that absorbs and disperses impact energy across its surface, a clear top-coat (X-technology on the BodyfenceX variant) and a solvent-based acrylic adhesive that bonds cleanly to clearcoat without leaving residue when removed.

When a stone hits a paint panel directly, the energy travels through the clearcoat and dents the metal. When the same stone hits a Bodyfence-protected panel, the PU layer absorbs the impact, dissipates it laterally, and on the BodyfenceX variant the top-coat self-heals minor surface scuffs at ambient temperature. The paint underneath stays factory.

The anti-dirt surface is the other under-marketed property. Road grime doesn't bond, and the panel cleans faster than bare paint. For dealer demo cars and customer daily-drivers that's a tangible quality-of-life difference, not just a paint-protection story.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Is Hexis Bodyfence the same as Monsta Guard?+

Yes. Monsta Guard is our branded sales name for Hexis Bodyfence and BodyfenceX PPF. The film, warranty, and manufacturer are identical — Monsta Guard is the trade brand under which Australian installers order Bodyfence kits through this portal.

How does Bodyfence compare to XPEL Ultimate Plus?+

Both are polyurethane films designed for vehicle paint protection. XPEL Ultimate Plus is 200μm; Hexis BodyfenceX is 180μm with X-technology self-healing. In practice the thickness difference is imperceptible in real-world impact protection. Hexis is priced lower at trade level and has tighter pre-cut tolerances in our experience.

What's the difference between Bodyfence and BodyfenceX?+

BodyfenceX adds Hexis' X technology — a self-healing top coat that recovers from minor scratches at ambient temperature (no heat gun needed) plus enhanced shock-absorbing properties. Same 180μm thickness, but BodyfenceX carries a lifetime warranty for certified installers compared to 7 years on standard Bodyfence. For premium and show-car work BodyfenceX is the right call.

Does the matte finish have the same warranty as gloss?+

Warranty depends on the specific film. The X-technology variants (BODYFENCEX gloss, BODYFENCEXS satin) carry the lifetime certified-installer warranty. Standard Bodyfence and Bodyfence Matte carry the 7-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing and cracking.

Can the film be removed without damaging paint?+

Bodyfence is designed for clean removal. The solvent-based acrylic adhesive releases with controlled heat (typically a heat gun at 60–80°C). No residue if removed within the warranty period on factory paint.
